Admissions

Student Admission Policy
Amery Hill School is popular and we work to accommodate any child and parent who are keen to join our school. We work alongside the Hampshire Admissions Team to provide a fair system for admitting students to our successful school.

Amery Hill School's Catchment Area
If you live within the western half of Alton, Beech, Bentworth, Chawton, Farringdon, Herriard, Medstead and Selborne you are in the school's catchment area. You can still apply to attend Amery Hill School if you are outside the catchment area.

Paper application forms can be obtained from any HCC school office or by calling 0300 555 1377 for a form to be sent.

In-Year Admissions
If your child needs to join us outside the normal admission round, you can apply for an in-year admission regardless of whether they are within or outside of the catchment area.

You can apply for a in-year school place for your child at any time by visiting the admission page on the Hampshire County Council site or by clicking HERE. The person applying must have parental responsibility for the child. In addition to making your application, you must provide the school with evidence of your child’s address, by providing any two of the following:

  • driving licence
  • council tax bill showing both your name and home address
  • bank statement showing both your name and home address

Or, if you are applying for a school place because of a house move or military posting please click HERE to find out what evidence is required.

Amery Hill School will respond to your application in no later than 15 school days. Please note that applications received during school holidays will be considered on our return.

If a place is available, we will contact you to arrange a tour of the school and subsequent start date. If we are unable to offer a place, then you will receive a refusal letter and your child’s name will be added to our waiting list. If your application was unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal.

Waiting List
The waiting list is ranked according to our admission criteria outlined in our Admission Policy.  Our polices can be found at the bottom of this page. Positions on the waiting list may move up or down as new applications are received.

The waiting list will close on the 31st August each year and you will need to resubmit a new application for the next academic year.

Appeals
You have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel against the decision not to admit your child to this school. If you would like to appeal against our decision, please click HERE to complete the online appeal form or contact the Hampshire Admissions Team on 0300 555 1377 to request an appeal pack by post.

Student Records
When your child joins the school you will be asked to complete the Admission Form. This will give us the information we need to be able to cater for your child's needs. Please complete the form accurately and inform us of any changes as soon as possible.

If your child joins Amery Hill School from one of the feeder schools their primary school's records will also be automatically transferred to us. Additional information about students will be kept for example school reports or medical records. All records are kept strictly confidential. If you wish to inspect your child's school records please make the request in writing to Mr R Jeckells, Headteacher:
