Teaching and Learning
Our Vision
Lessons at Amery Hill School are based on our Learning Pillars and follow the "Think it, Talk it, Tackle it" framework. This approach encourages creativity within a structured setting that goes beyond the classroom. Students are inspired and supported to become confident, independent, brave, and happy individuals. Through challenging and supportive learning experiences, they are prepared to be the best versions of themselves and ready for their futures.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum goes beyond lessons to include a strong co-curricular programme and engaging daily interactions. It is ambitious and challenging, offering knowledge and skills for all students. Key Stage 3 provides a broad and balanced foundation. At the end of Year 8, students choose options for Year 9, transitioning during that year to GCSE courses in core and optional subjects. Our curriculum prepares students for further study or work, ensuring fulfilling futures.
Marking and Feedback
Written feedback is clear and consistent. Students will have time during lessons to respond to feedback and improve their learning. Department Heads set up systems for giving feedback, choose important work to review, and make sure all assessments meet set standards. Not all work needs written feedback, but it will be given when most useful.
Assessment
Student assessment is transparent and fair, aimed at fostering growth rather than judgment. The goals are to measure student learning in order to adjust future curriculum plans, encourage collaboration among teachers and departments, and evaluate teaching methods, not teacher performance. Student reports will include a ‘Representative Assessment Grade’ to strengthen assessment data and provide a clear view of current attainment.
